Social SEO is a relatively new term which is based on how social media activity and engagement play an integral part in a website’s search rankings. For instance, search engines give more SEO weight to content that is harder to create. This means, original articles, original infographics, and video all will help boost your SEO and therefore your company’s search rankings. Furthermore, social activity through social pages will offer additional SEO benefits as Google is able to associate your accounts with your homepage (when linked properly, of course). Since legitimate interaction between business and customer is much more difficult to fake, a proper Social SEO strategy is becoming more and more vital to increase a company’s weight for search engine. This sounds nice and all right? But what can YOU do
1. Brand, Brand, Brand!
This is a no brainer. Any content that you provide through your social activity should have your brand name attached to it. This means on the content itself, tags, categories, etc. Branding within your content and posts help Google associate your company with keywords that will help internet users find you thus helping to increase your search rankings.
2. Linking Your Social Accounts From Your Homepage
When Google crawls through websites, they take notice of any social links (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc) and associates them with your social profile with your company. Posts from these linked accounts will help boost your ranking for specific keywords that are used in posts.
3. Choose Appropriate Social Platforms
Just because a social platform allows you to sign up for free, doesn’t mean that you need to join each and everyone one. If your business is not compatible with the culture of a social platform, don’t join! Find communities with a culture that will help your business and brand thrive instead of investing time marketing to an audience that will never read your posts.
4. Tweet Your Blog Posts!
Twitter get indexed faster than pretty much all sites (barring news outlets). This means that regardless of your Twitter followers, it is important to have your blog posts indexed as quick as possible. ALWAYS PUBLISH IMMEDIATELY TO TWITTER!

Uploading branded video will not only reward you with higher rankings but give you content that tends to be more shareable. In addition, statistics have found that customers who are able to view product videos are 85% more likely to purchase the product.
7. Focus on Share
Shareable content is what all your content should be about. Not only does this help your search rankings but when a customer shares your content, they are essentially distributing and marketing your brand to new eyes and potential new customers. “Linkbait” is a term used that will capture traffic and associate it with your brand. Great examples of shareable content include infographics, videos, and memes. Since what is shareable is not an exact science (yet!) the best rule of thumb is to look for content that you would personally like to share. For inspiration, I would even recommend taking a look at your Facebook newsfeed and see what your friends share.
8. BE PATIENT.
Effective Social SEO doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time–your time, an employee’s time, or an outside resource’s time–to make its effectiveness work. You will most likely not see immediate results. Social SEO is a long-term strategy, so stick with it consistently to see the results. There is no doubt, however, that Social SEO is a critical key to the future of online marketing that can move your business in a new and exciting direction.
