linked in funnyWith Facebook rolling out search engine-type capability this year with Graph Search and Twitter getting in on video action with Vine, leave it to another social media giant to cut into the competition:  LinkedIn.  This past week they introduced a “mention” feature that allows the social network to finally be a bit more social.

This feature has existed on Facebook and Twitter for years and will allow LinkedIn users for the first time to be able to start conversations with their connections as well as join in on conversations.

“We’re excited to introduce a new way for you to engage with your network through the ability to mention your connections and companies in conversations on LinkedIn,” Angela Yoonjeong Yang, associate product manager at LinkedIn, wrote in a blog post Thursday.

Previously, the main social feature for LinkedIn (outside of direct messaging and connecting with other professionals) was the ability to “Endorse” a connection on their skills.  The implications of introducing the mention feature is sure to change the dynamic of LinkedIn if adapted by all users.  We’ll definitely cover this soon but in the meantime, take a look at their slideshare which shows off how to use it.
